It's nodda too-muh!

15/40

Y'all, I just spent the entire school day, 8:50 - 3:00, volunteering at my kid's school (a one-time only gig, I can assure you all). I am sofa king dead, and wiped, and utterly out of can. No more can. All the can was poured out along with three-quarters of those gormless space cases' chocolate milk after lunch.

How in the everShatnering FUCK do teachers do this?

Good god! An entire day all at one time? Pace yourself! I have no idea how teachers do it. After volunteering for an hour in Oldest's classroom, I'm usually totally done with school, with kids, with it all. I refuse to volunteer for field trips or lunch/recess because they go on much too long and I know my limits. My take away from the last 6 years of volunteering = teachers really should be paid a LOT more.

Yeah, it was just this once -- mostly because the kid really wanted me to. I've been doing a couple hours one morning a week, but since the grandparents are here to keep Danger Toddler, I gave in to her pleas to stay the whole day. I now have a deep, deep understanding of what she means when she says school is boring. Goddy goddy godddd.

And yes: Pay these people more! Start by tripling what they get now, with more for merit.

I won't even do it for a day. Not even half a day. I join the boys for lunch maybe two or three times a year and it damn near kills me. The noise. The mouths talking and eating at the same time. The NOISE. It's just ... I can't imagine that career without shuddering.
