And then the Arabs came, and THEY had Mercedes-Benzes

So a self-described "Bible-believing Christian biologist" got fired from his job at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution -- an entity whose whole DEAL is about evolutionary fuckin principles -- allegedly because he doesn't believe in evolution, and he's suing for wrongful termination.
The mind boggles.
Now, I'd have to check with a lawyer, but this guy's firing sounds like it might be A-O-fucking-K, no?

yeah... I was going to post on this, but got distracted by other christopathic nonsense.

legally speaking, the "belief" in evolution in this particular context appears to be a threshold qualification for the job. as such, firing him for not possessing this qualification would appear to be permissible. A good analogy would be a film producer auditioning only white, Italian-looking men to play the role of, say, Rudolph Giuliani in an upcoming production of "Il Duce, Part Deux". Certainly the producer couldn't be sued for refusing to hire, say, and Asian woman to play the role, no matter how good of an actress she happened to be.

But from a practical standpoint, this guy appears to be in the wrong line of work. Or, if he wants to stay in the "science" field, I'm sure they'd hire him as a "scientist" at the Discovery Institute.

As I see it, the EEOC (in which WHOI participates) does not discriminate against any applicant, employee, or student on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship status, disability, or veteran status.

It is possible that Mr. Abraham could argue that his dismissal was due to his religion, which includes the disavowal of evolution.

However, WHOI's HR department says that consideration for employment will be based on your qualifications and work eligibility. If they can somehow show that a qualification is the belief in evolution, then that may have an argument.

Otherwise, they may be on the short end of the stick.
